Txtbk Question (pg 9 ques #25 and #26)

The Prime factorisation of a number is 2^4 X 3^5 X 7^2 X 11.
Write down 3 factors of the number that are greater than 100.
(Hint: 16 X 11 = 176, which is a factor.)
answer: 144, 147 and 198
solution: there are a lot of answers for this question. I came out with these answers through multiplying the factors.
144 --> 2^4 x 3^2
147 --> 3 x 7^2
198 --> 11 x 3^2 x 2

The Prime factorisation of two numbers are 2 X 3^2 X 7^3 X 13 and3 X 7^2 X 13^3 X 17 .
Write down 3 common factors of the numbers.

answer: 3, 7 and 13
solution: the common prime factors in both equations are 3, 7 and 13. since they are the same factor in different equation, the equation's answer will surely be able to be divided by the same factor.

maths (brainworks)

Question: A mathematician proposed that "Every even number greater than 2 can be expressed as a sum of two prime numbers." Do you agree? Why?

My answer: Yes, I agree. In prime numbers, 2 is the only prime number that is an even number, all the other prime numbers are all odd numbers. Odd number + Odd number = Even number. So, all even numbers greater than 2 can be expressed as a sum of two prime numbers.

Personal Reflection (Sarimbun Scout Camp)

What are the three main points (or more) that you had learnt from all the activities?

I had learnt that we must cooperate to achieve our full potential as a team and that teamwork is very important.

How can all these pointers be of help to you?

During the time where we had to make a raft, all of us cooperated to building the raft, some held the sticks, some tied the ropes, some secure the tyres and i felt everyone had played a part which resulted in a fantastic outcome. For teamwork, it was important during the night hike. If the people in front actually thought of only themselves and pass the obstacle without passing the message behind, the people behind will have no idea of whatever that was coming their way.

If you were to have another chance to try out all the activities, which one will you choose? Why?

I would want to try the flying fox. I had not done it during P5 camp because of time constrain and this time the same thing happened.

If there was one thing you would like to change in yourself, what would it be?

I would like to try to participate more in certain activities like the making of the flag, I did not participate but I just sat down and gave some ideas. I did not really like the way that some part of the team knew everything while the other just have to follow and do nothing.

6 Jan: #2 The Amazing Race - Debrief (II) Personal Reflection

What do you understand about the school value "Expanding Our Learning Networks"?

I understand that we can Expand Our Learning Networks by not only through the internet, not only through the world, but also in our community, if we only concentrate on expanding our learning networks through the internet, all over the world, we'll soon lose track on our own country itself. We should try to expand our learning networks in our community, understanding more from people living here and we might even learn something that is not listed on the internet, like how families lived in the past, a specific family, we can learn it from the elderly. By taking care of them, we can also get some experience on how to take care of our parents when they become older and weaker.

Why is this value important and how will it help you in your learning experience in SST?

It is important for our future research. If we need to find about a special place, we need to submit a report on a special place in our neighbour hood, we can learn more from them. We can even get the comments on people overseas, how an outsider feels about this particular event/accident etc etc. We should learn not to only limit our resources to the internet. Sometimes, viewing the place, interviewing the people yourself is better than other people interviewing them as you might have something to ask that the reporter had not thought of. It'll give you a better understanding.

5 Jan #2 Team Building Challenge - Debrief (II) Personl Relflection

What do you understand about the school value "Forging Excellence"?

I think that it is a good value as we should always strive for excellence no matter what we do and what matters.

What are the strengths that you think you possessed which can help you to achieve excellence?

I think that i possess leadership to help me to achieve my full potential and to do my best in other things.

What other attributes and attitudes do you think you should cultivate to excel in the things you do?

I think that i should try not to be so self-centered and try to involve my team members more than usual.

How can you contribute to help your class succeed?

I hope that I can contribute by helping out in resources and putting/contributing ideas to improve the project, and hence getting a better result that we could actually have.

4 Jan: #4Bridge Building Activity - Debrief (II) Personal Reflection

How do you feel about working in a team on the bridge building project?

I feel that it was a memorable experience, working in a team on the first day of school with unfamiliar team mates and getting to know each other better through this activity.

What do you think about your interactions with the members in your team?

I think that I had basically spoken with most of them and we did interact quite well, though one of my team member was quiet.

What have you learnt about yourself in the course of the activity and what would you have done differently in future group activities?

I think that I am too self-centered and I should let other people have the chance to participate in every activity to play a part in the activity.

Did you experience any fear(s), discomfort(s) and apprehension(s) working with this team? Why?
How do you overcome them?

I felt a little bit of discomfort working with people as some of them are quiet that makes me worried that they don't like the way I'm leading this activity, the way I am assigning work to each of them. Some of them are out going which makes me feel at ease. I did feel a bit of apprehension, that some of them will start hating me as first impression matters the most. I do hope some of them will speak up more to express idea. The idea of Group Work is for everyone to contribute ideas and do all we can to improve our result of this particular activity.

These are the websites that i usually frequent:
(from left to right and up to down)
http://sst-students2009.blogspot.com/
http://www.facebook.com/
http://www.youtube.com/
http://www.google.com.sg/
http://www.runescape.com/
http://www.hotmail.com/
http://www.yahoo.com/

I frequently go to play runescape. It is a massive online adventure game. It lets you interact with people all over the world and let you play with them online. You can go and do some quests, walk around, join the events etc. It contains violence like "killing" people and the computer-made monsters. But I do not get so addicted to mix it up with the reality. Even though it contains violence, i still learn something from my online friends.
For instance, I did not know that during their Thanksgiving day, they had to eat. I thought they just had to say their thanks to their relatives etc. It is my favourite online game.

My experience in creating this blog.

I had made a blog before, but I did not update it frequently and in the end i canceled it. So when i started making this blog, I wanted to focus my attention into updating my blog. I wanted it to look great. So after i made this blog, the first thing i did was go to look for a suitable blog skin. I spent quite a while racking my brains and trying to find the best blog skin i could find. It was then I gave up in finding. I viewed other peer's blog and saw they all had chose a blog skin! I felt left out not having one so i went to find one. But i could not find where to get the template for the particular blog skin i wanted. I tried for about half an hour. Then the computer started hanging. I quickly closed down all related sites and decided to leave it alone till another time. It was a nice experience and I think I like it just the way it is. Till I change my mind in changing the background again... cheers!

How I felt when I received the letter that confirms my posting to SST?

I felt as if I was on cloud nine, knowing that I've been accepted into a school that is new and only accepts a limit of 200 students. I chose this picture as it shows the view on a beach which gives you a soothing feeling and the the smiley face describes how I felt. SST only accepts 200 students in the whole nation and i'm been selected out of thousands of students! I was smiling from ear to ear. Knowing that I've been short listed was a great honour, especially when it was a school which aims to teach students using advance technology to conduct lessons and research.
